The dental implant procedure, All-on-4, was developed during the late 1990's. It was created in order to be more efficient in the use of implants in both the upper and lower jaws. All-on 4 is a very effective treatment for upper arch restoration because longer and stronger implants can be used in the rear of the jaw.
After the procedure was developed Nobel Biocare got together with the well known European implant dentist Paulo Malo. They started to use computer virtual simulation, bio-mechanics, and clinical research to figure out the best use of implants for restoring an entire upper or lower arch of teeth. They came up with a procedure that would use the fewest implants possible, while avoiding bone graft surgery, but still managing to provide high-quality results in a short amount of time.
The All-on-4 Dental Implant Procedure makes use of four implants, with the back implants set at an angle to take the most advantage of existing bone. Special implants were developed that would allow for the immediate fitting of the replacement teeth. This procedure is attractive to patients with dentures or patients who are in need of a full upper and/or lower restorations. The All-on-4 Procedure allows qualified patients to receive just the four implants and a full set of new replacement teeth in just one appointment with no bone grafting.
